The Famous 552 Plan

Remember.  The Fundamental Law of Mortality (a.k.a. The Arrow of Time or The Second Law of Thermodynamics) says that things deteriorate over time.  That definitely means our bodies. And it also includes plans!  A successful eating plan must be simple and easy to follow. And it must come with a guarantee that if you follow it, it will work (basic principle of Management by Objectives).

For some people, there is no key to achieving an ideal weight. They just stay thin no matter what. It just happens. For others (most Evans’s included), fat happens.

There’s an old saying from Kendo (Japanese wooden sword fighting) that has great relevance to weight loss:

When you focus on winning, you will lose.

When you focus on not losing, you will lose.

Pay attention to your inner balance.

Then, perhaps, you have a chance to win.

This is the key: If you can keep an inner balance, then you will gravitate to “your” natural weight over time.  Plus, you won’t be dieting your whole life. You’ll simply be maintaining an inner balance.  And feel more energetic and happier with yourself as well.

Here’s the inner balance formula that has worked for me (proven success from 265 lbs to 225 lbs) and will work for you:

1.      Schedule your next day’s activities the day before.  The Fundamental Law of Mortality says that if you don’t expend the effort to manage your time, then your use of time will naturally deteriorate into unproductive disorder. For many of us, that means we’ll vegetate. Our metabolism will be low.

2.      Walk at least 1 hour a day.  Split it up into as little as four 15 minute walks a day, but get 60 minutes of hard walking in each day.

3.      Control your eating to approximately 5 fat units a day, 5 carb units a meal, and 2 carb units for each between meal snack.  It’s the 552 (five fifty two) plan. ( 1 fat unit = 8 grams of fat and 1 carb unit = 15 grams of carbohydrate)  Focus fats on non-saturated and carbohydrates on complex.  Non-starchy and non-fatty vegetables are free.

The focus is not on a target weight.  The focus is on an inner balance for a lifetime. You’ll eventually gravitate to “your” natural weight, not necessarily a “Hollywood” weight. But it will be who you are. And remember what Erasmus (Catholic priest and theologian, 1466-1536) said,

“It is the chiefest point of happiness that a man is willing to be what he is.”
